Debt Advice for Insolvency Practitioners (IPs)

An Insolvency Practitioner will be disqualified from operating whilst bankrupt.

The bodies which authorise Insolvency Practitioners must enforce rules, in accordance with the Insolvency Act 1986, to make sure that an individual is deemed fit and proper to act, and will apply similar standards to the individual IP as they would to an Accountant or a Solicitor who is not an Insolvency Practitioner.

Insolvency Practitioners not authorised by another professional body may obtain authorisation by the Insolvency Practitioners Association (IPA). Members who are declared bankrupt will have their membership withdrawn by the IPA, but the IPA will use their discretion on an IVA taking into account individual circumstances and taking into account the person’s efforts to repay their creditors. In the event of membership being withdrawn re-admission is possible but doubtful.
